Renowned Evangelist Dr. Simon Gumbi Passes Away, Tributes Pour In

Khanyisa News, Lekwa Local Municipality, and the Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) in Mpumalanga have expressed profound sorrow following the passing of Dr. Simon Gumbi, a revered evangelist, motivational speaker, and moral leader. Dr. Gumbi, whose work touched countless lives, passed away on 14 July 2025 after a period of illness.

Khanyisa had a first close working relationship with Pastor Gumbi on 7 December 2007 in Standerton, when we released one of our popular editions of Khanyisa News with the headline, “Pastor Gumbi In Jail.” This was a story about the man of God sharing the Word of God with prisoners in Standerton. By saving souls in distress in Prison, Pastor Gumbi demonstrated that the Word of God has no boundaries.

A Legacy of Faith and Service
Dr. Gumbi was celebrated for his contributions to the gospel industry, marriage counseling, and community upliftment. His work not only placed Standerton and the Lekwa region on the global map but also left an indelible mark on South Africa’s spiritual and moral landscape.

In a heartfelt statement, Lekwa Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu described Dr. Gumbi as a “compassionate and spiritual leader” whose guidance was pivotal in addressing societal challenges such as gender-based violence, drug abuse, and moral decay. “His passing leaves a deep void, not only for his family but for all whose lives he touched,” Mayor Mngemezulu said.

The Mpumalanga MRM echoed these sentiments, honoring Dr. Gumbi as a “seasoned ambassador of moral and ethical behavior.” Quoting 2 Timothy 4:7-8, the MRM highlighted his unwavering faith and dedication to spreading the teachings of Christ. “His life was a testament to righteousness, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” said Rev. Dr. MM Nthali, MRM Chairperson.

Tributes and Condolences
Messages of condolence have flooded in from across the country, with many remembering Dr. Gumbi’s powerful ministry and his ability to unite communities. The Lekwa Local Municipality extended its deepest sympathies to his family, while the MRM urged the public to uphold his teachings.

Dr. Gumbi’s passing comes at a time when his leadership was deeply needed, but his influence remains a beacon of hope. As the community mourns, his life’s work continues to resonate, reminding all of the power of faith, love, and moral integrity.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
